1/12/2008 - Royals Come Up Just Short Against Hawks
Fullerton, CA- Hope International faced off against GSAC rival San Diego Christian inside the Darling Pavilion on Saturday. The Hawks hit a last second shot to defeat the Royals 61-60. Junior Ryan Sewitsky lead all scorers with 20 points.
The Royals (1-10, 1-4 GSAC) trailed by 11 points at half time (31-20) after hitting just 22 percent of their shots from the field. However, they came out of the break on an 18-7 run to tie the score 38-38 with 14 minutes to play in the contest. Hope’s largest lead of the game (6 points) came at the 5:47 mark. The Hawks (4-9, 1-4 GSAC) took a one point lead with just over two minutes to play after which neither team would ever have more than a one point lead.
Senior Bayo Arigbon, the GSAC’s leading scorer, hit a jumper in the paint with 3 seconds to play to give the Hawks the win. He finished with a team high 18 points and 10 rebounds (his conference leading 8th double-double of the season).
Sewitsky reach the 20 point plateau on the strength of four 3 pointers and going 6 of 6 from the free throw line. He also passed out a team high four assists. Senior Travis Hardeman picked up 11 points on 5 of 8 shooting.
Hope’s big men- Junior Arron Boone and Sophomore Boran Rajcic- combined for 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Jeremy Lattin had 11 points for the Hawks.
The Royals return to the Darling Pavilion hardwood on Tuesday against GSAC foe Cal Baptist. The game is the back end of a double header with the women and is scheduled for a 7:30 pm tip-off.
