2/12/2008 - Cline Not Enough Against Cougars
Fullerton, CA- On Tuesday, Senior Aron Cline scored 22 points against GSAC foe Azusa Pacific but the Royals fell 73-55. The difference in the game was the Cougars domination of the Royals on the glass (52-26).
Cline picked up his 22 points with a game high four 3 pointers and by knocking down 8 of 8 from the free throw line.
Junior Mike Pope had a solid 8 points and 5 rebounds for the Royals (1-20, 1-13 GSAC).
The Cougars (16-8, 9-5 GSAC) used a consistent attack (13-34 from the field in both halves) and a rebounding clinic to subdue the Royals.
Davon Roberts lead the offensive attack with a game high 26 points and completed a double double with 11 rebounds. Chidi Ajufo finished with 10 points on 4-4 shooting that included two dunks- one of which was of the double pump reverse variety.
David Burgess led the rebound domination with 13 rebounds. The Cougars had 29 offensive rebounds and 23 defensive rebounds to get their 52 total.
The twenty-nine offensive rebounds not only were more the Royals managed for the game but also created several chances of 3 or 4 shot attempts in one Cougar possession.
The Royals did manage to out block the Cougars (6-0) as Junior Arron Boone finished with more blocks (3) than points (2).
The Royals travel to San Diego on Saturday to go head-to-head against San Diego Christian. The game is scheduled for 7:30 as part of a GSAC double header and can be heard on Stretch Internet.
