2/16/2008 - Royals Come Back Comes Just Short
San Diego, CA- Down by 18 points at one point in the second half, the Royals came all back to within two of the Hawks before falling 85-81. Four Royals finished in double figures with Senior Travis Hardeman having a team high 20 points.
Hope International and San Diego Christian, both 1-13 in GSAC at the beginning of the evening, squared off on Saturday to determine the probable cellar dweller for the remainder of season.
To go along with Hardeman’s 20 points, Junior Arron Boone just missed out on a double double with 17 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out.
Junior Ryan Sewitsky and Sophomore Michael Johnson both chipped in with 13 points. Sewitsky hit 4 of 7 shots with two 3 pointers while Johnson hit 4 of 5 from the field and 5-5 from the free throw line.
Unfortunately, the Royals could not keep up with the dynamic duo of Bayo Arigbon and Chris Neal. Arigbon, the GSAC’s leading scorer and rebounder, muscled in 34 points while pulling down 10 rebounds- his GSAC leading 16th double double. He only had 6 points at halftime.
Neal, who finished with 24 points, was lights out in the first half as he hit 8 of 12 shots. His barrage of 3 pointers and fade-aways along the baseline lead to 21 first half points.
Jeremy Lattin also reached double figures with 11 points while Kevin Dillon paced the offense with 8 assists.
For one of the rare times this season, the Royals were not out rebounded by their opponents. The Royals and Hawks both finished with 33 total rebounds.
The Royals will travel to Riverside on Tuesday to square off against Cal Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm as part of a double header with the woman. The game can be heard on Stretch Internet.
