2/23/2008 - Royals Come Up Just Short Against Mustangs

Fullerton, CA- The Royals came just short on one last shot attempt and fell to the visiting Mustangs 64-63. Seniors Aron Cline and Travis Hardeman led all scorers with 22 points each.

Arron Boone, the Royals’ leading scorer for the season, managed to get a shot off in the closing seconds that would have given the Royals the lead and probably the win but the attempt came up just short.

Hope International found themselves down 35-26 at half time but they ate their Wheaties in the locker room and came out of the break on an 18-5 run. All 18 points were scored via the three ball with three makes each coming from Cline and Hardeman. They were a combined 6-6 from behind the three-point line to start the second half.

The Royals enjoyed a lead of eight before the Mustangs came grinding back. With 8:45 to play, the Mustangs tie the score at 54 all. One minute later, they would take a lead they would never relinquish.

Boone finished with 10 points but wished he had managed to hit that shot in the paint at the end of the game to give him 12 and the Royals the win. He also grapped a team high 7 rebounds.

Raphael Harris led the Mustangs with 21 points, which included 15 in the first half. He was saddled with foul trouble for most of the second half.

Ryan Zamroz helped the Mustang cause with 17 points.

The loss dropped the Royals to 1-23 and 1-16 in the GSAC. The Mustangs improved to 15-12 and 9-8 in GSAC.

The Royals return to the hard wood inside the Darling Pavilion on Tuesday against the GSAC’s top team- Concordia. The second game of the double header with the women is scheduled for a 7:30 tip-off.
