3/3/2008 - Cline and Hardeman Strong Showing But Not Enough
Fullerton, CA- In the final game of their collegiate careers, Seniors Aron Cline and Travis Hardeman combined for 32 points. Unfortunately, the Royals fell to GSAC foe Vanguard- 74-61.
Hardeman finished with a game high 18 points (including 3 three pointers) and 7 rebounds. He also managed 4 assists as he wrapped his career and rode off into the evening.
Not wanting to be left out, Cline knocked down 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists.
Junior Arron Boone also chipped in with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
The surprise of the night was Junior Jeremy Orr getting his first start of his two year Royals career. He immediately made the most of his start on the Royals opening possession. The generously listed 5-6 guard took a pass in the corner, gave a head fake to his defender, dribbled into the paint, and finished with a beautiful finger roll layup. He would finish the game with 4 points.
The Lions answered the Royals early lead by going on a three point shooting barrage. Greg Gusiff, playing against the school which he started his college career for the final time, led the way for the Lions with 17 points on the strength of 5 three pointers.
Point guard Greg Scott had the best all around game of any player on the floor as he dropped in 14 points, collected 8 rebounds, and dished out a game high 6 assists.
With the loss, the Royals concluded their season winning just one game. The Lions meanwhile picked up their 20th win of the season.
