9/25/2007 - Royals fall to #1 Eagles

Fullerton, CA- The Royals fell behind #1 Concordia Eagles early and never recovered- losing their home opener 3-0. Freshman Goalkeeper Jakob Brown kept the score close with 8 saves.

Hope played well at times but just could find the back of the net. Sophomore Josh Bloomfield kept the pressure on the Eagles by putting all three of his shots on goal. However, Eagle’s goalkeeper Mike Borst was up to the challenge (4 saves) including coming from nowhere to make a save on what seemed to be an empty net.

The NAIA’s #1 team, Concordia Eagles, scored in the fifth minute of the game and never looked back. Ryan Angell scored by heading in a corner kick off the foot of Mickey Mendoza. In the 41st minute, Angell found the back of the net again by pounding in a ball left up for grabs in the box. Concordia finished off the scoring in the 51st minute when Adrian Martinez sent a ball through the box that Eric Mendoza finished.

The Royals are next in action this Saturday at 2 pm at home versus the #16 Westmont Warriors.
