10/27/2007 - Royals Close Season with Loss to Sunbirds

Fresno, CA- On a rain soaked Saturday, the Royals closed out their season with a 5-0 loss at GSAC rival number 6 Fresno Pacific.

The Royals, who finished their season 8-10 overall and 2-8 in the Golden State Athletic Conference, found themselves in hole before ever leaving for Fresno. Injuries, Injuries, Injuries had become the theme song for the Royals as of late.

With Freshman Goalkeeper Jakob Brown (concussion) and Sophomore Josh Bloomfield (broken leg) out (along with a handful of players also out with leg injuries), the Royals used batch work lineup that included Sophomore Matt Fike making his first start of the season in the goal. Fike, filling in Brown who had played every minute of every game until getting hurt against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, made seven saves against the Sunbirds.

Unfortunately for Hope, Fresno Pacific (15-2-1, 8-2 GSAC) managed 19 shots with 12 on goal and five finding the net. Forward Amaury Nunes was the offensive star of the day as he knocked in two goals and contributed one assist. Cameron Hill, Pablo Campos, and Javier Cabello also scored for the Sunbirds.

As a team, Hope managed 8 shots with 4 on goal which were all saved by Sunbird goalkeeper Brandon Cave.

The Royals closed the book on their season with their loss in Fresno.
