2/29/2008 - Hope Block Party Not Enough, Falls to #2 Cal Baptist

Fullerton, CA- #8 Hope International welcomed #2 California Baptist to the Darling Pavilion on Friday night. The Royals managed to win Game 2 but overall fell 3-1 (30-21, 25-30, 34-32, 30-26). They used a season high 18.5 blocks to keep the match close.

Junior Rich Camerlengo, the Royals’ leader in kills, only finished with 8 kills but definitely made up for it on defense. He ended the match with one solo block and 10 block assists.

Senior Poyer Poia led the offensive charge with 19 kills on 36 attempts. He also made some impressive digs on the defensive end as he tied Noah Casaquit for a team high 7 digs.

Junior Gary Ramirez and Sophomore Cory Hindemit pounded home 15 and 11 kills respectively.

The one area the Royals did not help themselves was serving. As a team they committed 20 service errors versus just 4 service aces.

The Royals struggled to contain the high flying attack of Adiel Tiedjop who finished with a game high 28 kills on 44 attempts for the Lancers. Tiedjop also had a game high 10 digs.

Corey Spence helped the Lancer cause with 19 kills on 35 attempts.

Lancer setter Eric Plunkett was right on target as he passed out an impressive 58 assists.

The loss dropped the Royals to 4-10 while the Lancers improved to 6-7.

The Royals have a busy week up coming as they will play three matches in two days. All three matches will be at home inside the Darling Pavilion starting with a rematch against UC Santa Cruz on Thursday at 7:00 pm. On Friday, Lees-McRae drops in for a matinee match at 1:00 pm while Holy Names will play the Royals at 7:00 pm.
