1/15/2008 - Royals Outdueled by Lancers
Fullerton, CA- Hope International and the NAIA’s 18th ranked California Baptist played a classic GSAC game of “give me your best shot and we will give you our best shot” on Tuesday night in the Darling Pavilion. The Lancers out lasted the Royals, 77-74. A combined seven players finished the game in double figures.
The Royals (11-7, 2-4 GSAC), who had four players in double figures, were led by Senior Jasmine Nault who knocked down 22 points. Juniors Stephanie Wenke and Sarah Nylander combined for 31 points. Freshman Brittani Philbrook scored 10 points while also dishing out a game high 6 assists.
The Lancers (10-3, 4-2 GSAC) made 12 three pointers as team to subdue the Royals- including 6 different players hitting at least one three ball. Nicole Davis finished with a team high 22 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Jeanine Deno contributed 18 points and 5 rebounds.
However, the star of the night was Bryana Williams who pulled down 18 rebounds and 14 points (mostly on put backs off of her rebounds).
Even with all the three pointers the Lancers hit, the Royals kept the game close with an impressive performance from the free throw line. They finished the game 19-20 (95%) from the line. Oddly enough, the lone miss was by Nylander- the Royals best free throw shooter.
Hope International returns to action on Saturday at The Master’s College in Santa Clarita. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm inside Bross Gym.
