1/19/2008 - Nault, Philbrook Too Much for Mustangs
Santa Clarita, CA- Hope International returned to form against The Master’s in GSAC play on Saturday with a 62-58 win. Senior Jasmine Nault and Freshman Brittani Philbrook combined for 34 points and 19 rebounds.
The Royals (12-7, 3-4 GSAC) returned to the form that lead them to winning nine of their first ten games- screens, back door cuts, suffocating defense, and a slower tempo.
Nault lead the attack with 25 points. That marks a GSAC high 18th time this season that she finished with 20 or more points. She remains the league and NAIA’s leading scorer with 24.4 points.
Philbrook pulled down 10 rebounds to go along with 9 points and 4 assists.
None of their points were as important as each of their last two points. Philbrook hit two free throws with about 30 seconds to play that gave the Royals the lead 60-58. Nault hit two free throws with 3 seconds to play that iced the game for the Royals.
After hitting 19-20 free throws the game prior, the Royals continued their hot shooting from the free throw line as they hit 9 of 11 (81.8%).
Juniors Stephanie Wenke and Sarah Nylander both finished with 8 points. Wenke hit a layup with 2:30 to play that tied the game at 58-58.
Annie Gillespie wound up with a team high 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Mustangs (12-4, 3-4 GSAC). Jennifer Ayers-Stamper and Lisa Chenworth both had 8 points.
The Royals will remain on the road for their next game when they travel to Irvine to play Concordia on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm and can be heard on Stretch Internet.
