2/16/2008 - Nault and Company Too Much For Hawks
San Diego, CA- Four Royals scored in double figures, lead by Senior Jasmine Nault’s 34 points, as Hope International defeated GSAC rival San Diego Christian on the road, 83-69.
Trying to solidify the 7th spot in GSAC, the Royals (15-12, 6-9 GSAC) came into the game two games behind Cal Baptist and two games ahead of San Diego Christian, Biola, and Concordia. With the win the Royals, maintain a two game lead on the eighth spot with only 5 regular season games to go.
Nault, the GSAC and NAIA’s leading scorer, returned to her old self, after “only” 18 points against Azusa Pacific, as she picked up her 10th double-double of the season with the 34 points and 11 rebounds. She had 24 points from the field and was 10-12 from the free throw line.
Junior Sarah Nylander brought the outside game for the Royals as she hit 4-8 from behind the 3 point line. She also hit 4-4 from the free throw line for her 16 point total.
Freshman Brittany Philbrook had a solid all around game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists. Philbrook, Stephanie Wenke, and Cynthia Hernandez all finished with 5 assists.
Senior Allison Wulff had a perfect shooting night (4-4 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line) to be the fourth Royal in double figures.
Speaking of four players scoring in double figures, the Hawks (9-16, 3-12 GSAC) also had four players score in double digits. Guard Dorchella James had a great overall game- 15 points, 8 rebounds, and a game high 6 assists.
Vernessa Roberts also finished with 15 points which included 3 three pointers.
Erika Hendrickson picked up her second double double of the season against the Royals (third overall) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Ash had 11 points.
The Royals will try and close the gap against Cal Baptist for sixth place in the GSAC on Tuesday in Riverside. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm and can be heard on Stretch Internet.
