2/19/2008 - Five in Double Digits Not Enough Against Lancers
Riverside, CA- All five Royals’ starters scored in double figures on the road against Cal Baptist. Unfortunately, the Lancers also had five score in double digits and defeated the Royals 88-85. Senior Jasmine Nault led all scorers with 26 points for HIU.
Nault started out slow and was knocked around all game long and shot only 8 of 23 from the field. She did hit 10 of 13 shots from the free throw line. She also finished with 9 rebounds just missing out on a double-double.
Speaking of double-doubles, FreshmanBrittani Philbrook picked her third of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She just missed out on a triple double as she dished 7 assists.
Senior Allison Wulff carried the team in the early going of the game as she hit 14 of 18 points in the first half. She pulled five rebounds including 4 in the second half.
Juniors Stephanie Wenke and Sarah Nylander both finished with 11 points. Wenke also contributed 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Nylander also pulled down 6 rebounds.
For the Lancers, Jeanine Deno had a team high 24 points. All-American Nicole Davis finished with 23 points and 8 assists before leaving the game due to injury.
The back breaker for the Royals was Bryana Williams who knocked down 13 points to go along with a game high 13 rebounds.
Even with Williams’ efforts, the Royals out rebounded the Lancers 43-32- one of the few times the Royals have out rebounded an opponent all season.
With the loss, the Royals fall to 15-13 and 6-10 GSAC while the Lancers improved to 14-9 and 8-8 GSAC.
The Royals return home and host The Master’s on Saturday. They will look to repeat their earlier season win against the Mustangs as the game tips off at 5:30 pm.
