3/3/2008 - Royals and Lions Rain Threes in Regular Season Finale
Fullerton, CA- The regular season concluded for the Royals on Monday as they hosted #4 Vanguard- the Lions won 97-86. Combined the two teams launched 60 three point attempts though out the evening including 39 attempts in the first half. Junior Sarah Nylander led the charge by making a career high 7 three pointers on 15 attempts en route to a career high 25 points.
Senior Jasmine Nault, playing in her final home game, also involved herself in the three point shootout as she knocked down 3 of 4 from behind the arc on her way to a game high 35 points. Nault, the Royals career leader in points with over 2,300 points, has only made 26 three pointers in her career with 16 of them coming in her final season.
Senior Cynthia Hernandez impressed the home crowd one final time as well as she hit 2 three pointers to go along with a team high 5 rebounds.
All five Royals’ starters finished with one 3 pointer as Junior Stephanie Wenke drilled 2 triples and Freshman Brittani Philbrook knocked down one.
Unfortunately for the Royals, they could not keep up with the balance attack from the Lions as they had five players finish in double figures. Melissa Cook lead the way with a double double- 33 points (including 4 3’s) and 10 rebounds.
Lindsey Rinke dropped in 15 while pulling down 7 rebounds as Jessica Richter managed 13 points. Sarah Boyd and Bridgette Reyes both finished with 10 points.
The Royals wrapped up the regular season with a record of 17-15 and 8-12 in the GSAC as the Lions finished with a 22-4 record and 18-2 in GSAC.
The two teams will have little time to miss each other as they will square off in the first round of the GSAC tournament on Wednesday. The Royals will travel to Vanguard in Costa Mesa with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 pm. The game will be available to the listening audience on Stretch Internet.
