11/17/2007 - Wulff Leads Royals to Victory
Fullerton, CA- Hope International defeated visiting Holy Names, 83-60, in non-GSAC affair on Saturday in the Darling Pavilion. Senior Allison Wulff's first double-double of the season lead the Royals to victory.
The Royals (5-1) spread the wealth offensively as five players finished the game in double figures. Wulff lead the way with a game high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Jasmine Nault checked with 17 points- the first time she has finished a game under 20 points all season. Wulff and Nault were a combined perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line.
Junior Stephanie Wenke contributed 12 points along with three assists. Senior Cynthia Hernandez and Junior Sarah Nylander both finished with two 3 pointers and a total of 10 points.
Though she only finished with 5 points, Freshman Brittani Philbrook came up big by dishing out 6 assists, grabbing 8 rebounds, and blocking 2 shots (her team leading 11th and 12th of the season). She also only committed one turnover.
For the second game in a row, the Royals shot better than 50% from the field. They finished the night shooting 51.6% while holding the Hawks to only 38.3% shooting.
For the Hawks (1-4), Chelsie Kadota lead the offense with 17 points (7 of 9 from the field). However, the overall effort of Martha Spivey kept the Hawks competitive. She finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. C'ani Kealoha finished with 10 points but more impressively was perfect shooting the ball- 2 for 2 from field (both 3 pointers) and 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
Next up for the Royals is their Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) opener this Tuesday (11/20) on the road at Fresno Pacific. The ladies will tip off at 5:30 pm as the front end of a double header with the Men's Basketball team. Both games will be broadcast on Stretch Internet (www.hiu.edu/athletics/livebcast/).
