11/27/2007 - Royals Win See-Saw Game Against Biola
Fullerton, CA- Hope International defeated GSAC rival Biola, 62-57, on Tuesday evening. The game featured 6 ties and 14 lead changes. Freshman Brittany Philbrook lead the way with her first collegiate double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds).
The game was as close as the score sounds with the largest lead of the game being the 8 point lead Biola possessed with 11 minutes to play in the game. The largest lead of the night for Hope was 7 with 37 seconds to play.
The game was knotted 27-27 at halftime thanks to Philbrook sinking a three pointer with seconds left in the first half.
Senior Jasmine Nault dropped in 24 points, including 16 in the second half, to be the game's leading scorer. Oddly enough, much to her dismay, Nault did not attempt one free throw on the night. She leads the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) in free throw attempts (90) and makes (77).
Juniors Stephanie Wenke and Sarah Nylander both finished with 9 points. All of Nylander's points came from behind the three point line. However, Wenke received the biggest ovation from the crowd late in the game after a couple of crossover-between-the-legs dribbles that left her Biola defender standing still and created a wide open lay-up for herself.
The Royals improved to 9-1 (2-0 in GSAC play) with yet another come from behind victory.
To no one's surprise, the Eagles (3-4, 1-1 GSAC) stayed in the game by out rebounding the Royals 49 to 32. They lead the GSAC with a plus 13.5 rebound advantage.
Summer Matthews and Megann Alberts, a big for reason for the Eagles rebound success, pulled down 12 and 9 rebounds respectively. They are currently 1 and 2 in rebounds per game in the GSAC.
Alberts also finished with a team high 22 points but did not get enough help as no other Eagle finished with double-digit points.
The Royals return to action this Saturday on the road against Point Loma Nazarene. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm as part of a double header with Men's Basketball. The game will be broadcast on Stretch Internet and available at http://www.hiu.edu/athletics/livebcast/.
