12/08/2007 - Royals Run Away from Sagehens

Fullerton, CA- Hope International welcomed Pomona-Pitzer to the Darling Pavilion for a non-GSAC matchup on Saturday. The Royals used 20 steals to outrun the Sagehens, 86-41. Senior Jasmine Nault lead the way with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

The Royals (10-2) picked off 20 passes, a season high for the Royals, and forced the Sagehens (1-7) into 28 turnovers. Hope International converted those turnovers into 22 points.

Hope displayed their unselfish team play by picking up 23 assists on 36 field goals. In fact, all 10 Royals that played in the game finished with at least one point.

Although Nault lead the team in points and rebounds, she also dished out a team high 6 assists. Her favorite target was Junior Stephanie Wenke who finished with 19 points and 5 assists. The majority of Wenke's assists were returning the favor to Nault on the fast breaks.

Senior Cynthia Hernandez shot 6-7 from the field, including 2-2 from behind the 3 point line, to end up as the third Royal in double figure scoring with 14.

Senior Paula Reed only scored 2 points but came up big on the boards with 9 total. She and Nault were a big reason why the Royals out rebounded the Sagehens 41 to 36- only the second time all season the Royals have out rebounded their opponent.

The Sagehens were lead by Emily Van Gulik and Anja Huges-Stinson who finished with almost identical stats including 10 points and 4 rebounds. Mary Padden finished with a team high 6 rebounds to go along with 6 points.

The Royals will get about a week and a half off before playing again. They are scheduled to play in the Westmont Invitational against Montana State- Northern and Taylor (ID) on the 18th and 19th of December. Both games are scheduled for a 5 pm tip-off in Santa Barbara.
