9/26/2007 - #11 Eagles Too Much for Royals

Fullerton, CA- Although the Royals came into the Tuesday's Women's Soccer match with the season's best overall winning percentage (83%) in the Golden State Athletic Conference, GSAC rival and the NAIA's #11 Concordia Eagles proved to be too much for Hope International- defeating the Royals 5-1. Freshman Harmony Pruett provided the lone goal for the Royals.

Concordia (7-2, 1-1 GSAC) opened the scoring early when Trina McGee followed up a teammate's saved shot and buried the rebound in the 8th minute. Pruett scored the equalizer in the 32nd minute by bending in a shot in from the baseline. The goal was Pruett's team leading ninth of the season. The Eagle's second goal proved to be the back breaker. Just before the half time whistle, Danielle Garvin knocked a pass through the right side of the defense to setup a breakaway that Natalie Tankersky finished.

A coach's worst nightmare is to have the opposing team- that is already leading- score two minutes into the second half. The Eagle's Garvin became just that nightmare to Hope's coach Aaron Siefker when she pounded home a rebound. Concordia capped off the scoring with goals from Zahira Montanez and McGee's second of the match. Freshman Goalkeeper Rebecca Dixon and her seven saves tried to keep Hope (7-2-1, 1-1 GSAC) in the match but it was not meant to be on Tuesday.

The Royals return to action this Saturday at home as part of a Men's and Women's double header versus the Westmont Warriors. The women are set to kick-off at 12 pm with the men's game immediately following.
