10/13/2007 - Royals Score Late But Fall to #6 Point Loma
Fullerton, CA- The Royals went head-to-head-to-head with GSAC opponent #6 Point Loma on a soggy field on Saturday and fell 2-1. All three goals came as a result of balls being played into the box and then headed into the back of the net.
Point Loma (9-3-1, 3-2-1 GSAC) opened the scoring in the 13th minute as Christine Grover sent in a cross just out of the reach of Royals goalkeeper Ana Ahumada and right on to the head of Caitlin Footit- who knocked it home. In the 70th minute, the Sea Lions struck again. This time Christine Grover was on the receiving end of a cross from the right side off the foot of Rebecca Lewis. The shot beat Rebecca Dixon who subbed in for Ahumada at halftime.
The Royals (7-6-1, 1-5 GSAC) actually out shot the Sea Lions 9-7 but could not capitalize on their chances. That is. until the 90th minute. After a Point Loma foul, Sophomore Hope Lambert put the free kick toward the far post and Senior Jessica Sandoval out jumped her defender and found the nylon. The goal was Sandoval's third of the season and second in as many games.
On Tuesday (10/16), the Royals will try and snap a five game losing streak against GSAC rival The Master's. Kickoff is scheduled for 3pm at the Cal State Fullerton West field.
