2/29/2008 - Royals Win One, Second Washed Out
Buena Park, CA- Hope International squared off with La Sierra for the second time this season on Friday afternoon. The Royals won Game 1 by a score of 3-1. Just prior to the beginning of Game 2, the field's new sprinkler system turned on and made the field unplayable.
In the Game 1 victory, the Royals did not exactly hit the cover off the ball as they finished with as many hits as runs- three. They played enough small ball and took advantage of the Golden Eagle's mistakes to secure the win. The Royals ripped off three stolen bases and pushed two runs across via wild pitches from Eagle's pitcher Amanda Owens.
The top of the lineup, Freshman Cassandra Lewein and Sophomore Brittany Hoban, went a combined 2-5 with 3 walks and each scored a run. Senior Danielle Marinacci picked the game's only run batted in when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning.
Sophomore pitcher Sabrina Garcia came within one out of picking up the shutout but her defense let her down. Hoban could not come up with a grounder at third and Alyssa Fischer, who lead off the top of the 7th with a double, trotted home from third for the Eagles only run.
The Royals will not have much time to rest as they will host a double header with Whittier on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at George Bellis Park in Buena Park.
