3/8/2008 - Hofstetter, Mauerhan Lead Royals to Split with Eagles
Buena Park, CA- Freshman Allison Hofstetter provided the game winning hit and Sophomore Kelsea Mauerhan provided the solid pitching as the Royals won Game 2 (5-4) to earn a split with GSAC rival Concordia. The Eagles picked up an 8-2 win in Game 1.
Head Coach Mike Fitzgerald decided to move Hofstetter from the sixth spot to the top of the lineup and the move paid dividends all day. Hofstetter went 3-7 on the day with a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 rbi’s.
She saved her best for last as she came up in the bottom of the sixth of Game 2 with the score tied 3-3 and runners at second and third. She promptly singled and drove in Senior Danielle Marinacci and Freshman Cassandra Lewein. Lewein’s run proved to be the game winner.
Freshman Alexis Hurley continued to impress as she too went 3-7 with 2 doubles and 4 rbi’s on the day. She doubled in two runs in both games. Her four RBI’s on the day raised her season total to 18- a team high. Her 7 doubles also represent a team high.
Mauerhan’s day of pitching began in relief of fellow Sophomore Sabrina Garcia in Game 1. In Game 2, she was far from perfect but affective as she scattered 8 hits and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) while going the distance for the win and improving to 2-0 on the season.
Concordia’s shortstop Caitlyn Senkbeil went 5-7 (including 4-4 in Game 1) with a home run, double, and 5 rbi’s.
The Royals play GSAC foe Point Loma Nazarene at George Bellis Park on Tuesday. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 2:00 pm. The Royals will not play again at home until April 1st.
