4/26/2008 - Marinacci Goes Out Swinging
La Mirada, CA- Senior Danielle Marinacci closed out her Royals career in style as she went 4-5 with a double and rbi on the afternoon against #18 Biola. Unfortunately, the Eagles still swept the Royals 6-2 and 5-0 in their GSAC double header on Saturday.
Marinacci lead the way in Game 1 by going 3-3 with a double that drove in a run. She combined with Freshmen Caitlin Angel and Allison Hofstetter- the 5, 6, and 7 hitters in the Royals lineup- to go 6-8 with a walk while accounting for both runs in the first game.
In the fourth, Angel singled with two out and was driven home on a double by Hofstetter. Marinacci drove in Hofstetter with a double to left center but was picked off second to end the rally.
Unfortunately, that is the only scoring the Royals would do as the rest of the team managed just one hit between them- a single by Senior Lisa Teberg in the sixth.
The Eagles never trailed in the game as they score two in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth, and put the game out of reach with two in the sixth.
In Game 2, the Royals could not solve the pitching of Erica Moyer. The Eagles righthander allowed just three Royals base runners- all in separate innings- a single by Marinacci, a double by Alexis Hurley, and Ashlee Lopez was hit by a pitch.
Marinacci finished up 6-10 against the Eagles on the year.
The Eagles would score two runs in the second with the benefit of just one hit. A pair of walks opened the inning- followed by two sacrifices, another walk, and a single that drove in both runs.
On the benefit of six consecutive hits in the fifth, the Eagles would tack on three more insurance runs.
The double header was the end of the regular season for both teams. The Royals finished the year 19-29 and 5-19 in the GSAC. The Eagles ended the regular season at 25-23 with a GSAC record of 11-13 and are likely headed for post season play.
