Photo - Rayda Jaber & Breanne HortonOrange, CA- The Royals and Chapman Panthers played a marathon non-conference match on Tuesday night at the Hutton Sports Center. Chapman outlasted Hope International by defeating them 3-1 (30-27, 24-30, 30-28, 31-29) in 2 hours and five minutes. The Royals set numerous season highs including kills (77), attacks (225), assists (72), and digs (112).

Sophomore Jillian Lane was one of three Hope (3-10, 1-8 GSAC) players to finish in double digit kills for the match. Lane finished with 21 kills and 32 digs as she picked up a double-double for the second straight match. Sophomore Amanda Elliott led the Royals with 23 kills on 58 attempts. Sophomore Debbie Beliakoff chipped in with 15 kills. However, the best feat of the night was Freshman Larissa Niu pulling off the rarest of double-doubles- 56 assists and 17 digs. Not to be outdone, Freshman Chanel Gardner led the defensive attack with six solo blocks.

All the Royal team highs were not enough to over come the Panthers offense. Chapman (7-7) was led by Nikkie Powers- who finished with 23 kills. Jill Felger and Lyndsey Cargile also finished with double digits kills (18 and 10 respectively). Cargile had 15 digs as well to end up with a double-double. Kat Kowalski paced the offense with a match high 59 assists.

The Royals return to action this Saturday (10/6) for the first of three home matches in a row. They will try to end their eight match losing streak against GSAC foe The Master's Mustangs at 7 pm.
