10/09/2007 - Royals Come Up Short Against #8 Point Loma
Fullerton, CA- GSAC opponent Point Loma Nazarene, the NAIA's number 8 team, came for a visit to Hope International on Tuesday. Though the Sea Lions won 3-0, the Royals kept the match close with scores of 30-25, 30-26, 30-28.
Unfortunately, for the Royals (4-11, 2-9 GSAC) their down fall was their inability to close out a game. With the Royals leading 25-17 in game 2, the Sea Lions (13-7, 5-6 GSAC) closed out the game by winning 13 of the next 14 points- mostly on the serving Amanda Bevens. In game 3, the Royals led 28-25 but the Sea Lions closed out the match by scoring the next five points.
The match was not an offensive explosion for either team but instead became a defensive slugfest. The Sea Lions finished the match with only 46 team kills but 58 digs and 10 team blocks. Meanwhile on the other side of the net, the Royals ended the match with only 42 team kills to go along with 59 digs and 7 team blocks. Point Loma's Zoe Beltz led all hitters with 12 kills. Freshman Chanel Gardner led the Royals with 10 kills.
The Royals return to action at home inside the Darling Pavilion this Saturday at 7pm versus San Diego Christian.
