10/27/2007 - Lions Take Care of Royals
Fullerton, CA- Hope International lost 3-0 (30-21, 30-27, 32-30) to Orange County and GSAC rival Vanguard on Saturday inside the Darling Pavilion. Sophomore Jillian Lane led the Royals with 18 kills.
The Royals (6-15, 3-13 GSAC) could not find a consistent offensive flow all night. Their serving was a perfect example as they had 6 serving aces but also had 6 serving errors. With her 18 kills and 11 digs, Lane picked up her 14 double-double of the season. She finished as the only Royal in double figures in kills. Freshman setter Larissa Niu had the second highest kill total with only 6. She also passed out 25 assists.
Vanguard (9-12, 7-9 GSAC) wanted no part of playing more than 3 games after being pushed to 5 games before defeating the Royals earlier in the season. Leading the way for the Lions was Kelsey Wirt who knocked home 5 of her first 7 attempts and finished with 18 kills overall. She also picked up a double-double with a match high 25 digs. Heather DeJongh finished with 12 kills 12.
The Royals hit the road for their next two matches. They will play in Santa Barbara against Westmont on Tuesday and against Concordia in Irvine next Thursday. The Royals will return to the Darling Pavilion for their final home match on Tuesday (Nov. 6th) to try their luck against the NAIA's #1 team- Fresno Pacific.
