Hope Graduate Recognized for Service to the Community

Name: Tommy Nixon

Current Status: Alumni

Graduation Year: 2001

Tommy Nixon (B.A. 2001) was named "One of the 25 Most Influential People in North Orange County" in the February/March 2007 edition of "North Orange County" magazine.

Nixon was recognized for his hard work and dedication with Solidarity, an after-school program in Fullerton. Solidarity provides a variety of valuable services to the community: after-school recreational programs, mentoring, tutoring, and gang intervention. The organization serves about 100 children and youth per day.

The idea for Solidarity came about while Nixon was a student at Hope. He and about 8 like-minded classmates felt compelled to put their biblical training to use. The group spoke with local community members to find out how they could contribute. Solidarity has now blossomed into a thriving ministry. Its impact on the community has been so great that it is currently expanding to other parts of the city.
