On Tuesday night, Hope International University’s women’s basketball team won their first ever GSAC Championship when they defeated The Master’s College 64-59. The title is also the first of its kind won by any HIU sport in the University’s history.

“I am so proud of the entire team and the effort and commitment they have shown over the past seven months,” Head Coach Bill Crammer said. “As coaches, we told them from the beginning that defense and rebounding win championships and tonight they proved that.  It was a historic finish to a wonderful conference season.”

Playing on a neutral court at Vanguard, the Royals took the lead early in the game and never let up. Senior Andrina Rendon, who was named to the All GSAC team last week, earned her 20th double-double of the season with 22 points and 20 rebounds against the Mustangs. Fellow All GSAC teammate, Junior Brittany Bauman, counted 17 points. Read the full recap of the Royals’ historic win here.

The GSAC title gives the Royals an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament, which begins next week in Frankfort, KY.
