HIU Menís Basketball Team Goes to Nationals

After having one of the best seasons in school history, HIU’s Men’s Basketball is going to the NCCAA Division I National Championship for the first time! The team was granted the Western Regional entry after finishing the season with the highest rating in the region and beating all four teams they played from the region.

“ Our student athletes have worked extremely hard for this unbelievable opportunity and we all feel so blessed to represent HIU in the National Tournament,” says Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bill Czech. “We have really grown together through-out this season and tried to play with passion and unity all year."

On Sunday, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced the seedings and bracket for the Men’s Basketball National Championship this week in Oakland City, IN.  HIU earned the fifth seed and will open their tournament play on Thursday, March 17, against fourth seeded Roberts Wesleyan (NY) at 3:00 pm (PST)/ 5:00 pm (CST).

The bracket is a straight bracket played out first through eighth place.  The opening game of the tournament for all the teams is the most important as a win will secure that you will finish no lower than fourth place.

Here is the seeding and schedule of the tournament:

1.     Dallas Baptist University
2.     Spring Arbor University
3.     King College
4.     Robert Wesleyan College
5.     Hope International University
6.     Trinity Christian College
7.     Southeastern University
8.     Oakland City University

Game 1- 2 vs. 7- 1: 00pm (CDT)
Game 2- 3 vs. 6- 3:00pm (CDT)
Game 3- 4 vs. 5- 5:00pm (CDT)
Game 4- 1 vs. 8- 7:00pm (CDT)

If the Royals win their first game, they will play the winner of Game 4 (Dallas Baptist v Oakland City) at 7:00pm (CDT) on Friday.  If they lose, they will play the loser of Game 4 at 3:00pm (CDT) on Friday.

The Saturday times move back an hour from the Thursday and Friday’s games with the 7th and 8th place starting at 2:00pm all the way to the championship game starting at 8:00pm.
