Documentary on International Poverty to be Held at HIU
Life in Abundance International (LIA) presents a screening of their new documentary, “This is My Normal” on the campus of Hope International University (HIU) on Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 online at liaint.org/involved/ and $7 at the door.
In addition to a live musical performance by artist Joy Oladokun, Justin Narducci, Director of Partnerships and Resources for LIA, will be available for a Q&A following the screening. LIA is a non-profit group currently working in countries in northeast Africa to promote complete well being in people. “In order to achieve this,” said Jessica Ruf, LIA Events Coordinator, “Life in Abundance identifies churches working within the poorest communities in Africa and trains, equips and empowers the churches to serve their local community.”
Ruf, who is also a senior at HIU said the film explores questions like what is poverty and what is normal through the lens of life in the Mathare Valley in Nairobi, Kenya. The slums in this area are often referred to as the Forgotten Valley and the people living there are consumed with hopelessness. “This is My Normal” includes stories from residents of the Valley and depicts their living conditions.
