Students Sharpen Skills at National Journalism Convention
This February, six members of the Student Publications team and their advisor headed to San Francisco for the 29th Annual Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) National College Journalism Convention. The four-day convention hosted students and advisors from more than 100 schools nationwide. In addition to networking with students from other institutions, the HIU team attended workshops, lectures, and critiques, all aimed at strengthening their journalism and communication skills.
“I not only learned new photo-editing techniques, but I was also made aware of how respected our school is in the secular world,” Alicia Shewmaker, Photo Editor, said. “I was impressed by our staff's ability to handle hectic situations and to convey the love of Christ for all people at the convention.”Hope students also had the opportunity to meet publications teams from schools around the country. “I am blessed to have been able to attend the ACP conference,” Cecelia Nava, Arts & Entertainment Editor, said. “It was an opportunity to learn more about the field of journalism, and I am glad to have networked with other universities.”
