President Derry Launches Student-Focused “We Care” Campaign

Share |

ExcellenceDr. John Derry, sixth President of HIU, recently spoke at the summer all-staff and faculty meeting about two of his favorite topics, excellence and students first. He charged staff and faculty to continue aiming for excellence in all they do, and placed great emphasis on remembering that the University exists to educate young men and women through Christian higher education to serve the church and impact the world for Christ.

Along with this, Dr. Derry set up a new email address, WeCare@hiu.edu, which is set up to receive comments about staff and faculty members at HIU. He has encouraged the entire HIU community to use this email including faculty, staff, students, parents of students, etc. The emails will go directly to Dr. Derry and he will personally respond to each and every one. This is his way of showing the campus community that he truly cares about his charge for excellence and students first.

Below are some of the emails we have received so far.

Hope International University does care about their students. On the first day of classes each teacher greeted the students with warm smiles and wished them a great trimester. In addition the students were given warm delicious cakes with a variety of flavors lemon and chocolate. Each trimester the teachers give their all to make sure that we students are comfortable, challenged, and ready to be an excellent LMFT. Thank you Hope University for all your efforts!

When speaking with my mom yesterday, she mentioned all that you are doing to help her graduate in December despite her current health issues. I just wanted to thank you for helping her dream come true. As long as I can remember, my mom has always put everyone else ahead of herself and going back to school and especially earning her MFT is the first time in a very long time that she has bumped herself up on her priority list. While I am saddened by her cancer, especially since I am so far away from her and my dad at this time, it brings a smile to my heart to know that there are others who see what a wonderful person my mother is and are doing all they can to get her healthy and to achieve her dreams. I am truly blessed to have not only the best mom in the world, but also to have her as my best friend. Again, thanks to you and everyone there at Hope who are helping my mom achieve her dream. I hope to meet you at the graduation in December. Take care and please pass on my gratitude to everyone who is making this possible.

I would like to thank everyone on the campus for being so helpful and accommodating to my family and me. We had a wonderful tour of HIU and all of our questions and concerns were answered.

Hello. I was told that I could use this email to give credit to excellent Hope employees. I would just like to acknowledge how extremely helpful my Admissions Counselor has been to me. I must admit that I have been very high maintenance (I have lots of questions) and she always gets back to me quickly and makes me feel like she is happy to hear from me. I really can't say enough wonderful things about her. I haven't begun my classes yet and up until this point she has basically been the face of Hope for me. She is great! I just wanted it to be known.

I received your card yesterday. Thank you so much! At CSULB I was just another number so it feels good to go to a school where people know who you are and send personalized cards.
