Sports Management Coming Soon to Business Program
Beginning in the Fall 2012 semester, Hope International University (HIU) will offer a Sports Management concentration through the B.A. in Business and Management major.
Classes for the concentration will be held exclusively on Hope's campus, making it a convenient option for both dorm and commuter students. Other business concentrations take advantage of HIU's unique partnership with CSUF called the Contract Program, which allows Hope students to earn degrees beyond what the University itself offers. The Accounting concentration is completed by taking coursework about both universities while the Management concentration is completed entirely at HIU.
Dr. Jim Woest, Dean of the College of Business and Management, is excited to implement Sports Management because he believes it will add another essential element to the business major. Furthermore, Dr. Woest said the concentration gives students, particularly athletes, the opportunity to study in an area that is aligned with their professional and extracurricular interests.
The Sports Management concentration is available to all undergraduate students majoring in business and management. The structure of the degree will remain the same as other business concentrations, which require completing 65 units of general education courses and free electives, 42 units from the business core, and 15 units in a specified concentration.
According to Dr. Woest, a B.A. in Business and Management with a concentration in Sports Management can help prepare students for a number of career fields including athletic administration, director of campus sports, representing athletes, coaching, and working in professional sports organizations.
