9/8/05 Fullerton, CA - Oliver North to be Keynote Speaker for Hope International University's "Celebrate Hope" Dinner at Disneyland® Hotel
Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, USMC Retired, will be the keynote speaker for Hope International University's annual "Celebrate Hope" dinner held this year at the Disneyland® Hotel in Anaheim, CA. The event will take place on Friday October 7 at 6:00 p.m. "We are extremely honored to have such a strong proponent of Christian higher education as our speaker," says Dr. John Derry, President of Hope International University.
Oliver North is a combat decorated marine, a #1 best-selling author, the founder of a small business, an inventor with three U.S. patents, a syndicated columnist, and host of "War Stories" on Fox News Channel. North was born in San Antonio, Texas, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and served 22 years as a U.S. Marine. His awards for service in combat include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for Valor, and two Purple Hearts for wounds in combat.
Assigned to the National Security Council staff in the Reagan administration, Colonel North was the Unites States Government's Counter-Terrorism Coordinator from 1983-1986, was involved in planning the rescue of 804 medical students on the island of Grenada, and played a major role in the daring capture of the hijackers of the cruise ship Achille Lauro. His award-winning combat coverage, while embedded with U.S. Marine and Army units for Fox News during Operation Iraqi Freedom, won international acclaim.
He is the Author of: "Under Fire", "One More Mission", "War Stories-Operation Iraqi Freedom"; and two novels: "Mission Compromised" and "The Jericho Sanction". All of his books are New York Times' best sellers. North is also the founder of Freedom Alliance, a foundation that provides scholarships for the sons and daughters of service members killed in combat.
