12/15/09 Fullerton, CA - Hope International University’s Education Department Announces New Programs in Gifted & Talented Education (GATE)
The Graduate Education Department at Hope International University continues to expand its teacher education programs in the area of Gifted & Talented Students (GATE). The Master of Education with Concentration in GATE or GATE Certificate provides an opportunity for current GATE educators to further their education from a regionally-accredited University.
These new programs meet the exemplary level recommended standards indicated by the California State Board of Education. Educators will be equipped in the areas of program design, identification, curriculum and instruction, social and emotional development, professional development, parent and community involvement, program assessment, and budgets.
Hope’s unique program allows students to earn the professional development certificate while earning credit towards a master’s degree. The GATE Certificate is 9 units. By taking 21 additional units, students can complete the Master of Education with GATE Concentration.
Hope’s Education Department is recognized for its high number of graduates who have received the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award, as well as other educational awards.
Dr. George West, Chair of the Graduate Education Department and Member of the Board of Education for the Garden Grove USD, states, “21st century classroom teachers must be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of differentiated instruction. School administrators must be visionary instructional leaders with a clear understanding of curriculum development and instructional design. Our new Master of Education degree program, with a concentration in Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), provides hands-on skills designed to benefit both teachers and administrators."
The program is available in both 100% online delivery and on-campus format for one night a week. Schedules can be modified to accommodate school site or district cohorts.
