Student Affairs
Hope International University, through the Office of Student Affairs, provides numerous and diverse opportunities for students to participate in ministry, student government, community service, student leadership, activities programming, clubs and organizations, and more. Participation in these activities not only enriches a student's educational experience by developing skills and competencies but also provides contexts in which life-long relationships are nurtured. Every student is encouraged to find meaningful ways to get involved as a contributing member of the campus community.
Health Services/Insurance
The Office of Student Services serves as the official referral location for health and medical support. The Residence Life Staff can assist resident students with minor first aid needs, but all students requiring additional care will be referred to off-campus medical care providers.
All students who are enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in Pacific Christian College, who are actively attending classes on campus, or who are living in on-campus dorms are required to have verified health insurance. A waiver may only be granted to people already insured under equivalent plans. Those students who have not submitted a signed insurance waiver by August 1 or January 1, if you are a new student for the Spring semester, are automatically enrolled with the student plan.
Domestic students: The current annual premium cost is approximately $785 for a single student. Refer to the brochure for available dependent coverage.
International students: All international students, visiting faculty, scholars or other persons possessing and maintaining a current passport and valid visa status (F-1, J-1 or M-1, etc.), engaged in educational activities at the University who are temporarily located outside their home country and have not been granted permanent residency status, are required to be insured under the Policy. Waiver may only be granted to people already insured under equivalent plans. (A person who is an immigrant or permanent resident alien is not eligible for coverage under the international plan.) The current annual premium cost is approximately $1052 for a single student. Refer to the brochure for available dependent coverage.
Immunizations: Documentation for the following immunizations is recommended for all domestic students and required for all international students. Documentation consists of date of immunization, name or license # of the provider (doctor or clinic), and location of the provider (city & state). 1) Diphtheria Pertussis Tetanus "DPD"(current in past 10 years), 2) Mumps, Measles, Rubella "MMR" (2 dates needed), 3) Hepatitis A (2 dates needed), 4) Hepatitis B (3 dates needed), 5) Mantoux Tb Skin test (within past year), 6) Polio (last booster around age 4-6), and 7) Menomune (Menengococcal).
Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan: A student seeking treatment at an off-campus medical facility when using the Student Health Insurance Plan must first contact a member of the Student Services Staff. The student plan will begin with the first visit only if the student has obtained the appropriate referral form. Refer to the Student Accident and Sickness Insurance Plan brochure, available at either the Office of Student Services or Student Accounts.
No student health insurance program pays 100% of the claim submitted. Anticipate some personal cost following your visit to a medical facility. Students are encouraged to utilize insurance coverage with parents when available, and to investigate the options before requiring service. Many private HMO plans have geographic limitations. Students should confirm that their provider does cover claims incurred at local health service facilities near the campus.
