Contemporary Literary Expressions (Capstone Course)

ENG4701 Contemporary Literary Expressions (Capstone Course) (3)

This is the capstone course for the English major. It requires academic rigor as well as artistic, creative expression. This course will examine the crea-tive process as it is reflected in the literary expressions of the late 20th and 21st century films, novels, poetry, short stories and critical texts that repre-sent the current trends in literary and cultural studies. Students will exam-ine, both analytically and creatively, the role of art and literature in its partic-ipation with and reaction against the culture of an increasingly technocratic society. Students will produce original, creative literary pieces that reflect insights gleaned from the works of Dave Eggers, Michael Chabon, Junot Diaz, Joan Didion, Salvador Plascencia, Norman Mailer, Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and others.
