Assistant Coach - Men's Basketball
Coach Ed Matillo joined the Hope International University staff as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team in 2014.
Prior to coaching at HIU coach Matillo spent five years at Santa Ana High School. After his time at Santa Ana High School, coach Matillo spent 22 years as the head coach at Buena Park High School. Coach Matillo holds coaching records at Buena Park for most league championships, most wins, most playoff appearances, and most playoff wins in Buena Park history. Coach Matillo was named Freeway League Coach of the Year four times and was named an Orange County All-Star coach twice. Coach Matillo also spent four years as an assistant coach on the staff of Cypress College.
Coach Matillo graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 1978 with a Bachelor’s in Communications. He went on to receive his Master’s degree from National University. Coach Matillo has been married to his wife Lisa for 30 years and has two children, Aaron and Elyse.
