2/9/11 Fullerton, CA - New Housing Director/Residence Life Coordinator Joins HIU
Joining the Housing Department at Hope International University is Brett Bartlett, who has taken over as Men’s RLC and Director of Housing. Bartlett previously worked at Young Life, a Christian organization that focuses on impacting the lives of adolescents. He believes Young Life prepared him for his position at Hope because it centered on earning others’ trust by spending time with them, which is something he has already begun doing with HIU students. Through activities like flag football, Ultimate Frisbee, and Nerf wars, Bartlett has created opportunities to engage with students and begin developing relationships with them.
Community building is clearly important to Bartlett and he is looking to instill that same value in students, specifically when it comes to cheering for the different Royals’ teams. “I would love to see HIU students get super involved with supporting their sports teams,” Bartlett said. “Athletics is an area anyone can enjoy and it helps build such a pride on campus when everyone is involved.”
It is easy for Bartlett to be a symbol of Hope pride because he lives on campus. When asked how he feels about being in the dorms, Bartlett responded with a laugh. “I love it! It’s like my wife and I have adopted an extended family of mostly boys!” He relishes having the chance to socialize more often with students because he is committed to them. “I just want every student to know that I truly care about them,” he said, “and want to make their time at Hope the best times of their lives.”
