Position: Maintenance Technician

 

DepartmentCampus Facilities/Operations

 

Organizational Relationship: Reports to Director of Operations

 

Position Status: Non-exempt, Full-time, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday

 

Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician performs and implements repair and maintenance procedures to effectively look after the physical aspects of all campus buildings, equipment, and grounds and regularly acts as on-call Technician for after-hour (5:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.) emergencies regarding University facilities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • All facets of campus repair and maintenance.
  • Works in unison with Director and Supervisor of Campus Facilities and the Operations Service Request System in completing work orders according to each technician’s specific qualification and as determined by the Campus Facilities Operations Director and Supervisor.
  • Performs routine service functions based on season, weather conditions, and other known time dependent procedures.
  • Works cooperatively with all campus departments in facilitating timely and proper response and promotes good will relative to work requests. 
  • Works cooperatively with all campus departments in facilitating proper customer service response and good will relative to work requests and campus-wide assistance requirements.
  • Works in unison with the Director and Supervisor of Campus Facilities Operations to facilitate productive and financially sound maintenance techniques.
  • Assists with the operation and maintenance of Central Plant, as requested.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Director or Supervisor of Campus Facilities Operations.

 

On Call Responsibilities (rotating among Operations staff)

  • Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are available to live on-campus to be able to respond to after-hours campus emergencies within 20 minutes.
  • Carries University provided cell phone at all times during after-hours.
  • Responds to after-hour emergency calls regarding electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC issues as requested.

 

Employment Standards:

QUALIFICATIONS:  To fulfill this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

 

Education/Experience: High School Graduate with HVAC-R certification (preferred) and facilities maintenance experience.

 

Knowledge and Skills:  HVAC, Electric, Plumbing and general building maintenance.  Fluent in proper and acceptable maintenance practices, as established by Hope International University Campus Facilities Operations management.

 

Mental Demands: Ability to diagnose problems while observing safety standards. Ability to interact with others in a professional manner and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

 

Visual Demands: Ability to read construction prints and wiring diagrams.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.

 

Physical Demands: Able to lift, grasp, stoop, reach, and carry up to 60 pounds as required for occasional equipment and supplies management. 

 

Environment: Able to function independently within established job responsibilities and parameters; able to operate well in a “busy” environment (both interior and exterior) where multiple conversations and activities may be occurring at one time.
