Position Information

Organizational Relationship: Reports to the President

Position Status: Full Time Exempt, Administrative

Compensation: $130,000 - $140,000

Starting Date: May 15, 2026

Position Summary: Serves as the Chief Academic Officer of the University, providing administrative oversight to all colleges and academic programs, including student registration and records; faculty hiring, training, and evaluation; and program and curriculum development and implementation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to:

  • Serve on the President’s Cabinet as Chief Academic Officer of the University.
  • Cast vision for the academic programs of the University consistent with the mission of the University.
  • Lead the Deans Council in contributing to and in fulfilling the HIU Strategic Plan goals related to academic programs and academic success for students.
  • Develop new program/program expansion initiatives consistent with HIU’s mission and HIU’s Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee regional accreditation compliance and good standing.
  • Oversee assessment of academic programs through the Director of Assessment and the faculty University Assessment Committee
  • Oversee revenue/expense budget planning and administration.
  • Structure all academic program administrative and operational functions.
  • Through the college Deans, oversee all academic programs, including the recruiting, hiring, training, evaluation, and development of faculty.
  • Supervise professional and clerical staff, with direct supervision of middle managers, deans, and administrative support staff.
  • Act as the final authority for the resolution of student problems, concerns, or questions with regard to academic issues.
  • Maintain optimal learning environments in classrooms and classroom technology with the collaboration of other University departments.
  • Work cooperatively with other University departments.
  • Limited teaching (maximum of one course per term with approval of the President).

  • Oversee the college Deans in establishing and implementing new cooperative agreements involving academic programs with organizations, agencies, and/or educational institutions.
  • Oversee preparations for HIU Commencements in May and December, and for Honors Chapel in May.
  • Prepare and lead university-wide faculty meetings in mid-August, October, and March.
  • Maintain University publications, including University Catalog, Fact Book, and Faculty Handbook.
  • Provide authoritative support to the Accreditation Liaison Officer.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the President.

Education/Experience: Earned doctorate required. Collegiate teaching and administrative experience required. Professional or significant volunteer ministry required.

Knowledge and Skills: Academic leadership, personnel supervision and management. Commitment to Christ, passion for and experience in Christian Higher Education and helping students reach their educational goals. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and telephone skills. Must be self-directed and take initiative. Excellent written communication skills, including grammar and spelling. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database management software.

Mental Demands: Ability to oversee multiple projects at a time, oversee all accreditation activities, and engage in ongoing developments with accreditors. Ability to oversee a large number of direct reports, dealing directly and professionally with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
