Position Summary
Status: Full-Time (Hourly)
Pay: $26 per hour
The Graduate Advisor for the Counseling & Psychology (CPC) Graduate Programs provides holistic, student-centered support that fosters academic success, personal growth, and a sense of belonging. This role serves as a key point of connection between students, faculty, and program leadership—ensuring students feel known, supported, and guided throughout their graduate journey. The advisor also performs essential administrative and operational duties that support program effectiveness, compliance, and smooth day-to-day functioning.
Student Advising & Support (Community and Student-Centered Focus)

Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming and current CPC graduate students.

Build strong, supportive relationships with students that reflect HIU’s mission.

Conduct regular check-ins and retention-focused communication.

Provide resource referrals for academic, personal, and community support services.

Support students during transitions including admissions, practicum preparation, and graduation.

Facilitate community-building activities and workshops.
Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain accurate student records and degree audits.

Assist with registration and course sequencing.

Support practicum and internship administrative operations.

Prepare reports and tracking tools.

Coordinate communication regarding program updates and policies.

Assist with accreditation documentation.

Support events such as orientation, intensives, workshops, and information sessions.
Collaboration & Communication

Collaborate with faculty, program chairs, and administrative staff.

Participate in program and departmental meetings and activities.

Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Experience in academic advising, student services, or counseling.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Commitment to student-centered, community-oriented support.

Organizational and multitasking abilities.

Proficiency in office software and student information systems.
Preferred

Familiarity with graduate counseling or psychology programs.
