RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA :: On Monday, May 18, Hope International University held its 9th Annual Golf Marathon to raise funds for student scholarships and departmental programs. For the third consecutive year, this event broke previous records, raising a record $55,165, for a cumulative total of more than $400,000 since the inaugural tournament in 2007.
This year’s field of golfers included University administrators, faculty, staff, and coaches, as well as pastors, church leaders, community members and donors. Participants enjoyed spectacular ocean vistas while playing “The Links at Terranea” course, culminating with an awards dinner at Nelson’s, one of Terranea Resort’s premier cliff-side restaurants.
“Our sponsors and players make a significant difference,” reports Troy Gardner, HIU’s Director of Church Relations & Development. “Hundreds of well-deserving students have been impacted over the eight years of this annual event, not to mention the countless lives those students and alumni have touched.”
Our 2015 title sponsors included University Trustee Glenn Carpenter (Course Sponsor) and Church Development Fund. Additional sponsors included Arthur J. Gallagher & Company, Caliber Media Group, Christ’s Church of the Valley San Dimas, Direct Print & Promotions, Eclectic Associates, First Christian Church Huntington Beach, and Payne Janitorial, Peter C. Foy & Associates, Proline Electric, and The Wright Image.
This year’s “Skills Challenge” winners were Graham Taylor (first place), Jim Taylor, (second) and Mark Comeaux (third), each of whom qualified to attempt a hole-in-one for $1,000,000.
