It’s with sadness that we share the news that retired Pacific Christian College/Hope International University Professor (and Administrator) Paul McReynolds passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from cancer and complications from cancer. He was 88.
Dr. McReynolds joined the Pacific Christian College faculty on the Long Beach campus in 1967 as Professor of New Testament. Beloved by generations of students who learned New Testament from him and knew him endearingly as “Dr. Paul”, Dr. McReynolds was best known for his unparalleled expertise in the Biblical texts, for his patient, gracious teaching in New Testament classes, and for his published Greek/English Interlinear New Testament.
Although he retired from his full-time faculty position at the end of the 2004-05 academic year, Dr. McReynolds continued to teach for HIU as an online adjunct professor right up to June 2025.
A family memorial service was held in Half Moon Bay, California on August 2.
If you were a student or colleague of “Dr. Paul” and have a memory or tribute to share, please write it out and send it to Kim Johnson, Executive Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs: [email protected]
We will collect and curate these for display.
Be sure to identify the date range when you were Dr. Paul’s student or colleague.
A memorial gathering will be held to remember and honor Dr. McReynolds in the Dr. Joseph C. Grana Chapel Auditorium on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
