Current Status: Alumni

Graduation Year: 2006

Big Wave Dave (MBA, ‘06) is one of the well-known radio personalities on Los Angeles and Orange County’s premiere Christian radio station, KFSH 95.9 fm The Fish. As the second largest radio market in the country, over 300,000 listeners tune in to The Fish everyday to enjoy the music, entertainment, and radio hosting of Big Wave Dave (BWD), and other KFSH radio hosts.

BWD’s career began when he moved from New Hampshire to Nashville in order to attend college. After four years, he graduated with a double major in Theatre and in Communications-Human Relations. After working for stations in Boston and Virginia Beach, BWD became Creative Services Director for what turned into the Clear Channel-Nashville cluster of five radio stations including legendary WSIX and WLAC. In 2001, after almost ten years in the service of this cluster of radio stations, he accepted an offer from The Fish to move to southern California where he is currently the on-air personality from 3pm-7pm.

After a number of years of working with The Fish, Big Wave Dave decided to obtain his MBA at Hope because of his desire to challenge himself. He believes that his experience at Hope changed his life. He received entrepreneurial skills, became a more effective problem solver in the boardroom, and gained a deeper understanding of our purpose as ambassadors for Christ and for serving others.

BWD also appreciated the flexible programs at Hope that allow working adults to continue their careers while receiving a degree. “Who would have thought that a person could earn their MBA at home, on the road, in their pajamas, or on vacation with their family. With Hope professors up at 2am to help with difficult concepts, and with classmates in Fresno, St. Louis, and Southern California, the Hope experience was quite unique. Whether on the train, on vacation, or on a business trip, I never missed a class and earned my MBA in just two years. Hope was instrumental in catapulting my career and is ideal for an active person interested in pursuing a graduate degree while maintaining a professional career.”

His educational experience also prompted him to begin writing a series of children’s books that continues the entrepreneurial theme underscoring the MBA program at Hope.

Listen to Big Wave Dave afternoons Monday-Friday on 95.9 The Fish, or online at www.kfsh.com.
