Stewarding Finances

Name: Scott Aubin

Current Status: Alumni

Graduation Year: 1998

Scott Aubin (BS ’98) has solidified himself as an overachiever in the finance industry for the entirety of his working career. Starting out at the Federal Reserve in San Francisco, he learned the ins and outs of budgeting, banking, and payment services. With several years of experience under his belt he decided to further his education with HIU and completed the Organizational Management program in 1998.

“I first heard the term ‘servant leadership’ at HIU. I realized then, that’s the kind of leader I want to be. I now consider it my privilege to serve my colleagues and management team.” Scott has continued his work in the finance industry working with CBRE and Xerox, to name a few.

In December 2016, Scott was offered a position at USA Water Polo (USAWP). His love for sports and desire to be more involved in the community made this opportunity to pivot from corporate banking to a sports organization too enticing to pass up. As the current CFO of the USAWP, Scott’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the association through the pandemic. During his time there he has successfully led the conversion to a new payroll and HR system for the organization, ensuring that efficiencies were gained in payroll and Human Resources department. Scott also has taken over the Compliance functions for the organization. He worked with an outside insurance consultant to develop a new compliance program for club members and navigated a new audit process from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

For these reasons, along with his exemplary leadership, Scott was nominated for Orange County Business Journal’s CFO of the Year.

“My mission is to help business leaders make good decisions. In my current role, I am one of those leaders, and I want to ensure that we are being good stewards of our funding. The shift from working with larger corporations to USWP has enabled me to really get to know each of the staff, and I feel like I am genuinely making an impact,” Scott humbly stated.

Prior to the pandemic Scott helped in children’s ministry at his local church.
