“Sharon Carter is an exceptional servant leader. Serving Senior Pastors and College Presidents is no easy task, yet she did so gracefully and graciously for decades,” remarked President Alexander. “With a heart of gold and strong sense of pride in doing things well, she served tirelessly and selflessly day in and day out. I consider it a privilege to have worked with her. I wish her all the best in retirement.”

Just months into her retirement, Sharon’s husband, John Carter, fell gravely ill and passed away. They married on Christmas Day, 2002. John attended and volunteered at HIU events alongside Sharon, and befriended many in the HIU community. For many years Sharon and John have beem among HIU's most generous and faithful donors.
