Pastor's Walk Across America Promotes Christ-Centered Homes

Posted: August 30, 2014

Dr. Jim Buckley, Teaching Pastor at Newbury Park First Christian Church, has embarked on a walk across America. Walking 20-25 miles per day, Dr. Buckley will visit 14 states and cover roughly 3,000 miles in his six month journey all in an effort to promote the importance of family and a Christ-centered home.

'There is hope for every home if Jesus is in the home to stay,' Dr. Buckley says on his website. 'The secret is for the home to invite Jesus in and to have him live there in a living, loving, life saving and changing relationship.'

The inspiration for the walk across American came to Dr. Buckley when he was reviewing Acts 8:3, which speaks of Saul destroying the church by going from house to house. Dr. Buckley felt moved to consider the importance of the home in keeping the church strong. To that end, the father of five and grandfather of 13 will be devoting time during his trek to visiting churches and homes along the way. Joining him on the journey is his wife, Glenda, who will follow him in their RV.

Dr. Jim Buckley began his ministry in 1968 and served as lead pastor of Newbury Park First Christian Church for 28 years. He recently transitioned to the teaching pastor role, giving him more time to spend as an adjunct professor  with TCM International Institute, which is based in Austria. A former Board of Trustees member at Hope International University, Dr. Buckley holds a D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary and an M.T.S. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.

Those interested in following along with him on his walk can do so by visiting InvitingAmericaHome.org where they can see updates on his progress as well as the city he is currently closest to. The walk, which began on April 1 in Newbury Park, CA, will conclude in October of this year in Times Square, NY.
