On June 8, 2016, the WASC Senior College and University Commission formally notified President John Derry that HIU's Regional Accreditation has been affirmed for a period of eight years (through the Spring of 2024). The Commission commended HIU in particular for the following:

  • The institututional commitment to growing diversity of the student body, recognizing changing demographics, and the need for individualized attention to student success
  • The institution's deep commitment to fostering and providing opportunities for servant leadership
  • It's mature culture of assessment, which includes closing the loop, this is embedded at multiple levels of the institution

"We are very pleased with this kind of affirmation from our accreditors," responded Dr. Paul Alexander, HIU's Vice President for Academic Affairs. "It represents an acknowledgment of the good work our teams have done the past several years. We look forward to continuously improving what we do and how we go about the business of training servant leaders at HIU."
