HIU's Student Government Association (SGA) organized and hosted our first annual Cancer Awareness Walk to support those affected by cancer, including the family of former SGA President, Jorge Perez. Approximately 100 members of the Hope community -- including family and friends -- came together to raise awareness and pray for cancer patients and their loved ones.
Jorge was diagnosed in May with Stage 4 Diffused Midline Glioma, which is considered terminal brain cancer, and was given approximately one year to live. Soon after his diagnosis, his cancer progressed rapidly. Jorge lost his battle with brain cancer and went home to be with the Lord on December 19. Our hearts and prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
Jorge was well known and much loved around the HIU campus. He was on the men's soccer team, a leader at his youth church group, started his own clothing business, worked at Disneyland, and was active in HIU's ministry club, The Well. Jorge was getting ready to take on the role of being our SGA President when he went to the ER last March, and his brain tumor was discovered.

A GoFundMe has been created to support Jorge and his family during this incredibly challenging time.
